Finding yourself in an emergency situation with no food around is never a good thing and being a prepper so your family has food id recommended by FEMA. If you are like us, your favorite place in the house is the kitchen, and that is where you spend most of your time figuring out new meals and trying tasty foods.

But when you are on a camping, backpacking, hunting, or a hiking trip, you usually do not have all the necessary equipment to showcase your cooking skills. However, you will still need to eat and that is where survival food kits come in handy.

There are a number of different companies that compete in providing the best quality emergency food kits for the lowest price. One of the most popular is the Wise Company as they have a versatile offer of different food buckets. Our personal favorite is the Emergency Food Variety Pack.

Wise Company Emergency Food Variety Pack

The Wise Company Emergency Food Variety Pack is a great example of a versatile food survival kit.

Including 104 servings of different dishes, and with a 25-year shelf life guarantee, you can be sure that this product will satisfy your grab-and-go needs. Convenient and tasty, a few of these will cover the whole group’s needs for a weekend trip.

Who is this product for?

The purpose of survival food kits is quite clear – it is for anyone who is in an emergency situation, or those who go on regular camping, hiking, and backpacking trips who are in need of convenient and easy-to-prepare meals.

Along with that, it is great to have a bucket of these at your job for any time you feel hungry and you don’t have space to prepare yourself a good meal (or eat at a restaurant).

What’s included?

As we mentioned above, the Emergency Variety Pack includes 104 servings of food.

Starting off with the entrees, this survival kit comes with one pouch of Creamy Pasta and Vegetable Rotini, one pouch of Pasta Alfredo, one pouch of Savory Stroganoff, and one pouch of Tomato Basil Soup.

Each pouch covers 4 servings. Along with that, there are a number of fruit and vegetable pouches including bananas, strawberries, peas, corn as well as Apple Cinnamon Cereal and Brown Sugar Multi-Grain.

Not to forget, there are a few servings of yogurt, butter sauce, and whey milk.

Overview of features

The Wise Company Emergency Food Variety Pack is an affordable food survival kit that has a great price compared to other companies like Mountain House.

Still, while it does offer 104 servings of food, the main problem is that only 16 servings are entrée dishes while the rest are mostly either fruits or vegetables, or dishes such as cereals and puddings.

While we are talking about a versatile and balanced survival kit, it would be better if it included more pasta and meat meals and keep the fruit servings at about 30% of the whole package.

On the other hand, such a meal structure can prove great for people that are vegetarian or don’t enjoy heavy meals when they are camping and hiking. The dishes are well-spiced and nutritional, which is a big plus.

All the foods have a 25-year shelf life, but you should know that the pouches are not resealable.

They are pretty easy to prepare, as there is nothing more to do other than adding enough water and leaving it for 15 to 20 minutes.

This survival food kit is perfect for on-the-go meal planning. While there are a few cons, it is still a great buy, offering over 104 servings of easy-to-prep food, at an affordable price.

How to use it

As with any other food survival kit, preparing the meals is as simple as rehydrating the food by using plain water.

There are two options as you can either use room temperature or boiled water which shortens the prep time. Even if you get confused there is nothing to worry about as the bucket offers clear instructions for all the dishes.

Wise Company Gourmet Seasoned Freeze-Dried Meat

If you are a fan of main entrees and you don’t want to be left hungry, this variety is a great alternative to the above-mentioned Variety Pack. Affordable and easy to prepare, this package is excellent for meat enthusiasts and people that need more protein energy for their hiking trips.

Another alternative you can try is Chef Boyardee Italian Sausage Ravioli which is more of a ready to eat item.

Investing in a proper food survival kit will go a long way should you find yourself in an emergency situation or on a camping/hiking trip.

The Wise Company Emergency Food Variety Pack is a versatile bucket that includes 104 servings of entrees, fruits, vegetables, and breakfast meals.

It can’t get much better if you are interested in maintaining healthy diet habits while you are on the trail.
